The Murtala Muhammed Foundation proudly presents the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of General Murtala Ramat Muhammed (1938–1976), former Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

This landmark series of events honours the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of General Murtala Muhammed — a national icon celebrated for his courage, discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service and national unity.

About the Commemoration

Spanning 2nd – 28th February 2026, the anniversary activities will bring together policymakers, scholars, religious leaders, civil society, youth, and citizens across Nigeria and beyond to reflect on General Muhammed’s ideals and their relevance to contemporary leadership and governance.

Key Activities Include:

  • Legacy Art Exhibition (2nd – 28th February, 2026)

  • Strategic Policy Workshop in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA)

  • Official Wreath-Laying Ceremonies in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
