Program Overview

The Murtala Muhammed Foundation Global Support Program is a transformative initiative addressing the critical needs of marginalised communities in Nigeria. Focused on education, women’s empowerment, humanitarian support, and governance, the program is strategically designed to empower youth through practical NGO experiences, collaborative learning, and community-led programs. Commencing with a pilot phase in the first quarter of 2024, the program aims to engage over 30 to 40 volunteer staff and 15 mentors, committed to a 50:50 gender distribution and inclusivity from underserved communities. This visionary program seeks to catalyze positive change, creating a ripple effect that uplifts beneficiaries, communities, and the next generation of leaders.

Program Background

A significant portion of Nigeria’s youth, eager to contribute to societal progress, faces a critical gap in experiential learning opportunities. These dynamic individuals, with a burning desire to champion the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), need more platforms to harness their passion and turn it into tangible impact. This vacuum in NGO experience creates a void, stifling the emergence of a new generation of community leaders who could drive change from within.
Furthermore, the absence of a robust mentorship and guidance framework exacerbates staff and beneficiaries’ challenges. In an environment rife with socio-economic complexities, mentorship is imperative. Staff members require guidance to navigate the intricate landscape of development work, beneficiaries seek support to break free from marginalisation, and even volunteers yearn for mentorship to maximise their impact.

Global Volunteer Mentorship Program (G.V.M.P.)
